Privacy Policy

FUMANA is a local discovery platform operated from Zimbabwe. We help people find jobs, accommodation, businesses, and freelancers, and connect with them directly.

For the purposes of the Act, FUMANA acts as a data controller when we determine why and how your personal information is processed on this platform.

Depending on how you use FUMANA, we may collect:

• Account data: name, email address, password (stored in hashed form), and account role.
• Profile data: optional phone number, profile photo, and biography.
• Listing data: titles, descriptions, locations, prices, photos, contact phone numbers, and other details you submit when posting jobs, accommodation, businesses, or freelancer profiles.
• CV data: information you enter into our CV builder (employment history, education, skills, and related résumé content).
• Search and usage data: search queries, filters used, pages viewed, and technical logs needed to operate and improve search.
• Technical data: IP address, browser type, device information, and session identifiers (including authentication cookies).
• Communications: messages you send to us (for example via email or contact forms).

We collect only information that is relevant to providing our services. You should not submit sensitive personal information unless it is necessary for your listing or CV.

FUMANA may request access to your device location when you choose features such as Use my current location or Near me on search. Location permission is optional. We do not automatically access your device location simply because you open the website.

Location access only occurs after you interact with those features and your browser grants permission. The browser permission dialog remains authoritative.

If you allow location access, FUMANA may use it to:

• Identify a nearby town, growth point, or area within our Zimbabwe location database
• Help you select listing locations when posting
• Provide nearby search results and improve location-based search relevance

We minimise storage of raw device coordinates. When possible, FUMANA matches your coordinates to the nearest official location in our database, asks you to confirm, and stores the selected location ID — not your precise GPS coordinates — for listings and search preferences.

For public listings, FUMANA normally displays a general location such as Jahunda, Gwanda rather than exact latitude and longitude. FUMANA is not a tracking application and does not continuously monitor your movement.

You can always choose your location manually by searching instead of using device location. Both methods provide the same core platform functionality.

We process personal information only for specified, explicit, and legitimate purposes, including:

• Creating and managing your account.
• Publishing and displaying listings you choose to post.
• Enabling search, discovery, and direct contact between users.
• Operating the CV builder and related account features.
• Securing the platform, preventing abuse, and enforcing our terms.
• Improving search quality and platform performance.
• Complying with applicable law and responding to lawful requests.

Our legal bases under the Act may include your consent, performance of a contract with you, compliance with legal obligations, and our legitimate interests in running a safe and useful local discovery service — provided those interests are not overridden by your rights.

We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with:

• Other platform users: information you include in public listings (such as phone numbers, descriptions, and photos) is visible to visitors of FUMANA.
• Infrastructure providers: hosting, database, and cloud service providers that process data on our instructions to run the platform (for example database hosting providers).
• Third-party contact services: when you use WhatsApp, email, or phone links from a listing, you are interacting directly with those services and the listing owner — not through FUMANA as an intermediary.
• Regulators and authorities: where required by law, court order, or a lawful request from POTRAZ or other competent authorities.

Where we use data processors, we require appropriate contractual safeguards and security measures consistent with Section 18 of the Act.

Subject to the Act, you may have the right to:

• Be informed about how your personal information is collected and used.
• Access personal information we hold about you.
• Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.
• Request deletion where there is no legitimate reason to continue processing.
• Object to certain processing, including direct marketing where applicable.
• Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
